About DEBRE Safari Adventure

The adventure began in January 2019 during a short and unexpected sightseeing visit to a shopkeeper in the north of the island of Zanzibar. As a result of that meeting, we agreed to stay in touch, despite the 14,000 km that separated us. After several months of email exchanges, the idea of establishing a safari agency seemed to us to be the logical next step in our relationship. We realized that we shared a common passion for the great outdoors and wildlife.

Established in October 2019, DEBRE Safari Adventure was set up as a business model that contributes to the vitality of regional economic activities and provides a healthy environment for its employees. Because our employees are at the forefront and in direct contact with our customers, we attach the greatest importance to their well-being and professional training by offering them the best conditions in the industry. It is with this philosophy that we firmly believe in achieving our goals and meeting or exceeding our clients’ expectations. We endeavor to provide you with excellent experiences of direct contact with wildlife, while helping to support the tourism industry that is so important to Tanzania.

DEBRE Safari Adventure became a reality following a long-time cherished dream. As a Tanzanian woman, I always loved staring at nature and wildlife. As I grew up, I always envied tourists who came to visit our national parks every year. One day, I came to realize the multiple opportunities that existed in the tourism industry and the efforts our country did to protect and preserve its wildlife. It was just a matter of time and circumstances for my dream to materialize.

Born in Canada, I always longed for a life closer to nature, away from bustling cities where light and noise are ever present, and, where biodiversity is constantly losing ground. Whenever I had a chance to go for a hike in the wildernesses or go on a canoe-camping adventure in one of our national parks, it created in me this euphoria where I wished time would stop forever. In January 2019, whilst on a business trip in Tanzania, the ingredients for such a strong connection with wildlife became obvious. This time, conditions were there for an enduring adventure.

Ombeni Mawoo

Since my youngest age, I used to cross the Arusha national park to go in and out of my native village regularly. This became an advantage as I learnt since I was young about our local wildlife heritage. Today, being a guide is a way of life for me. Every time I visit one of our national parks, I learn more about it. I love this job because it’s unique and I can share my knowledge, and my understanding of our wilderness with the clients that accompany me. I feel that I contribute to the cause of our beautiful and unique national parks. Understanding and preserving our natural treasure while sharing the view of a fragile reality with the rest of the world. I sincerely hope to meet you and live together a safari experience one day.

I lived most of my life within the Arusha national park. The environment is exceptional and, for that reason, I want to share it with our clientele. I want to show them the best that Tanzania has to offer. An excellent guide is someone who is passionate about his or her job. I make it a point to pass on this passion to you on every visit we make to one of our national parks. As I also keep learning from each visit, you will learn just as much, with the addition of what I already knew. No matter how long you stay and what itinerary you choose, you will have lasting memories.
